Seoul: Suwon Hwaseong and Exotic Food Private Chartered Tour

5.0 (3 verified reviews)

About This Experience

A private, chauffeur-driven day led by a registered guide, and the only Hwaseong itinerary that treats Suwon's food as a destination in its own right. It pairs the fortress with Tongdak Alley — the strip of whole-fried-chicken restaurants behind Paldalmun that Suwon is genuinely famous for in Korea.

The historical half is thorough: Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, the Suwon Hwaseong Museum and the Suwon Center for Traditional Culture, with admission to all of them included. The museum is the piece most group tours skip, and it is where the engineering of the fortress — Jeong Yak-yong's lifting cranes, the fire-signal beacons, the construction ledger that recorded every worker's wage — actually becomes legible.

The day finishes at Starfield Suwon's library atrium, and pick-up is from your hotel rather than a station exit.

Ten to ten and a half hours, a small private group, and a guide who can change the running order to suit you.

What Travelers Say

Rated 5.0/5 by 3 verified GetYourGuide travelers.

The excursion took us about 1 hour south of Seoul to a fortress that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We also visited a kind of museum village, where original historic buildings have been collected and rebuilt. There were also folklore performances there. Finally, we visited the Library, an impressive modern building with thousands of books. The guide, Fred, was very knowledgeable and told us many details about the places and the history. The tour was very worthwhile. Thank you!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Tongdak Alley?

A short street of whole-fried-chicken restaurants behind Paldalmun gate, and the dish Suwon is best known for domestically — a whole bird, fried, cut at the table. The tour stops there; the food itself is not included in the price.

Which museums does this tour include?

The Suwon Hwaseong Fortress Museum and the Suwon Center for Traditional Culture, both with admission covered. The fortress museum is where the engineering — the lifting cranes, the beacon system, the construction ledger — is properly explained, and most group tours skip it.

Is this a private tour?

Yes — a private chauffeur-driven day for your group only, led by a registered guide, with pick-up wherever you choose in Seoul or Suwon.

How does it compare to the group Hwaseong tours?

It costs more per person and covers more of the fortress complex, including two museums the group tours leave out, and it collects you from your hotel. Book it if the fortress itself is the reason for the day rather than one stop among four.

Do I have to pay when I book?

Not necessarily — this listing offers a reserve-now-pay-later option, so you can hold a date and settle later. Check the terms shown at checkout.
